The Checkup – The Factor

If you like your house music raw, stripped back and groovy, then this new EP from Electroncial Reeds is one you need in your bag.

It’s a classy four track affair featuring one original from The Checkup and three great remixes from Smash TV, Shades of Grey and DJ Schwa, and each of the cuts included will find a place in your affections.

The original The Factor is a bristling bit of deep house with nice textures, shuffling drums and icy pads that make for some serious basement beats. It’s also resplendent with some well placed vocal musings and lush piano chords that bring some musicality to the groove. The Smash TV remix is a more playful, bouncy affair with drums dropping from a decent height, nice chord stabs and some thin tailed pads off in the distance to add some soul. Fans of stripped back hose will be into the DJ Schwa remix, but finally its Shades of Grey that comes correct with a dubbed out, chord heavy remix that is physical and deep, driven but also spacious and unhurried. A fine EP overall, then.
