prompt – five years of 7noise
Madrid’s 7Noise imprint delivers the retrospective ‘5 Years Of 7Noise’ compilation this February, comprising a selection of original cuts from label-head Prompt, backed with remixes from Slam, Nic Fanciulli, Silicone Soul and Tom Clark.
7Noise burst on the scene in 2008 at the height of the minimal movement, with Prompt’s ‘Evolve’ track easing the label into the limelight, picking up early support from Tiefschwarz, Matthew Dear (Included his ‘Body Language Volume 7’, Joris Voorn (Included two Prompt tracks in his ‘Balance’ compilation), Noir, Jeff Samuel, Adam Beyer, Todd Bodine, Mathias Meyer and Michelle Owen, and was licenced for compilations on Soma Records, NRK and CR2. Here prompt takes a look back on how the label has blossomed over the years, touching on a wide variety of house, techno and stripped grooves throughout its twenty-three tracks. Prompt is predominantly associated with 7Noise yet evidence of his tight-knit productions skills can be found in the fact his work has spread further afield to be found on reputable imprints such as Highgrade Germany and Yoshitoshi Recordings.
Prompt delivers classy, infectious electronic grooves throughout the compilation, whether it is the straight 4:4 drum-led house of ‘Toucan’ and ‘Turn Me’, melodic progressive cuts like ‘Brazz’ and ‘CRUSH!!!’ or organic, atmospheric tools for layering over tracks. The results are always of the highest quality and experimental in their own right. The Spaniard blends a tight fusion of organic instruments with electronic sounds brilliantly, the highlight of this being Prompt Live Band’s ‘Black Hole’ and ‘White’ which employs live, jazzy piano licks, warbling sax tones and natural bass-lines to create a warm and refreshing take on modern house music.
The compilation features some of the remixes that can be found of the label over the years from heavy hitters such as Slam, Nic Fanciulli, Silicone Soul and Highgrade’s Tom Clark. A couple of which have provided some quotes about the compilation.
“We’ve been fans of 7Noise for many years, always quality deep music and it was a pleasure to remix one of their strongest tracks so far (Zora) Best Wishes for the years to come!” – Silicone Soul
“Prompt tracks always combine this wonderful straight groove, with little twisted elements and a touch of jazz or Latin beats, a great combination for modern dance music. It was such a pleasure when I had the offer to remix one of his tracks.” – Tom Clark
