Hanfry Martinez – Distraction
The La Vie En Rose imprint continues to mark itself out as a label to watch, this time with rising star Hanfry Martinez and the ‘Distraction Way EP’ featuring a collaboration with head honcho Terence :Terry: and a huge remix from the irrepressible Dyed Soundorom. Lead track ‘Disco 90’ squelches into the atmosphere with an acid synth line evolving around a shuffling percussive groove. Various musical elements and extra-terrestrial sounds are layered expertly as the track builds to a hypnotic climax. This one is guaranteed to be in the bag of many a tastemaker in the coming months and will certainly be causing a stir on the dancefloor.
Up next Martinez is joined by Terence :Terry: for ‘Sunday Gathering’ which rattles in with echoed rims and claves providing the initial groove before a slick bassline takes centre stage. Bubbling percussive elements continue to grow in and around the mix acting in a call and response fashion with the hypnotic spoken vocal.
Dyed Soundorom then steps up to give his interpretation of ‘Sunday Gathering’ and brings his usual blend of sexiness to the party. Detuned chops of the original vocal lead the way with sultry melodies riding above an irresistible bassline. To sweeten the digital deal Martinez contributes a second offering entitled ‘Hanfry Scan’ – a bumpin’ Chicago house track propelled into the future with eerily arpeggiated synths displaying once again the producers innate ability to construct intricate layers of melody with dramatic effect. Hailing from the Canary Islands, Hanfry Martinez has been setting the European underground scene alight with a string of excellent productions paving the way for him to play in some of the worlds finest clubs. His label Overall Music, which he runs with partner-in-crime Javier Carballo has also been going from strength to strength with releases from Maya Jane Coles and Subb-an to name a few.
