Glory Club – Glory club EP
This EP is a perfect example for the not-so-new-but-very-fresh fusion of pop music with electronic elements spinning from house to more sophisticated beats, reaching a depth that will bring this new project to a wide public that knows if they are hit by something interesting. 4 cuts of dancefloor warmers as well as every occasion where people listen to music instead of showing off.
Background info:
Glory Club is the pet collaboration of producers Anthony Collins and Jordan Lieb (black light smoke). Straying from their usual dance sound the two have taken a dive into pop music, bringing forth a unique blend that is laid back, retro, and also very fresh. The effort started in 2012 with a collection of loops and sounds from which they crafted the aesthetic for their songs in one night. With Jordan’s lyric writing and some superb guest vocal appearances Glory Club flourished into a true band effort. By drawing on – and extending beyond – dance music both producers make a bold statement about their musical vision. Both club and radio friendly Glory Club is sure to excite listeners across many lines.
Dominique Star is the lead singer of Star + the Sea, a Brooklyn based Indie-Pop project. Jordan Lieb – aka black light smoke – is a Chicago native and New York transplant. As life long musician, singer and multi-instrumentalist his work spans and often breaches multiple genres. Some of his work includes his pop/electro duo Tiger Fingers (Hafendisko); his psych-acoustic solo act Fangs; Glory Club, a project formed with label mate Anthony Collins; techno releases as Jordan Lieb on Mr. C’s label Superfreq and John Hughes Daydream, his secret moniker which explores a deeper, cinematic side of electronic music (Cut Mistake Music).
Jordan is also an Emmy Award winning composer for his work in television and film. Black Light Smoke debuted in 2010 with the inception of the label Scissor & Thread. His infectious single ‘Lovework’ caught fire internationally, spurred on by a remix from DJ T. His music found an immediate home with vinyl DJs, being charted by the likes of Andrew Weatherall and Appleblim. On his records and in his live set black light smoke showcases a unique blend of analog house, 80’s anthems and his gritty, punk rock feel for dance music. As an engineer and producer he has shaped records for many artists such as Jason Poranski of Beirut and JD Samson & MEN. He helped to craft many of the Scissor & Thread releases by Francis Harris, Anthony Collins, and Bob Moses lending his unique sound to the world of indie and dance music alike.
Anthony Collins – Underground DJ and producer Anthony Collins has proven to be one of the most promising rising stars to emerge from the French house and techno scene. Born to an American father and French mother he grew up in both New York and southern France. Getting his first taste of music as a child in his fathers jazz recording studio in Los Angeles it wasn’t until later in France that he discovered electronic music as a teenager and fell in love. Acquiring his first pair of decks at the age of 17 and playing his first gig the following year it was soon time to push his budding career forward by moving to Paris. Quickly establishing himself on the scene he was booked regularly to play at the city’s most prestigious nights and was soon taking his talents abroad, to benchmark parties in Berlin, Ibiza, New York, Los Angeles, and beyond. Anthony describes his style as a mix of deep house, minimal and deep tech, and his ability to master this range is demonstrated in the breadth of high quality labels he has released on.
His EP’s span from iconic French imprint Freak N’ Chic to the hailed deep tech sounds of Curle, Steve Bug’s Poker Flat, Vakant, Mule Electronic, Ibadan, Liebe*Detail, Horizontal, and Supplement Facts. On the remix front Collins’ unique style has allowed him to rework such luminaries as Ricardo Villalobos and other famed talents such as Lee Foss, Cesare Vs Disorder, Alejandro Vicanco, Boris Werner and Public Lover (the latest project from Bruno Pronsato). In 2009 he released his first full length album ‘Doubts & Shouts’ on Freak N’ Chic, to the acclaim of many in the underground scene, receiving full support from Loco Dice, LoSoul, Raresh, Ellen Alien and Shaun Reeves among others. A highlight of 2011 and Anthony’s career to date was his collaboration with Ricardo Villalobos and Los Updates titled ‘I Throw Water Into The Lake’, a sultry, at times eerie, deep tech number on Nice Cat! Records. As of late Anthony has been focusing most of his time on a new venture with New York’s Francis Harris. Scissor & Thread, which launched at the end of 2011, is by no means your average dance imprint. The label is a platform for ambitious sounds, mixing up slow and sultry house with the song writing ethos of the indie world. With a steady stream of releases from newly discovered composers, producers, vocalists and instrumentalists, 2012 was an exciting year for the label. On top of managing this new outlet Anthony has still found time for his own musical endeavors with upcoming EPs in collaboration with Francis Harris under their ‘Frank & Tony’ project and solo work on his own more house centric sub-label of Scissor & Thread dubbed ‘Natural History’.
