christian nielsen – slanguage ep
After impressing us with his work on Play it Down, Danish DJ/producer Christian Nielsen continues his impressive vein of form on Nick Curly’s 8bit, and if you’re a fan of electronic music, then you’ll no doubt be aware that we’re dealing with a man who’s stock is firmly on the rise. So, how does he deal with the attentions of a new label? Well, as it transpires, he makes the transition with some ease, as he contributes an impressive four originals to the different but delectable release that is Slanguage.
‘Slanguage’ itself is an unusual track, with its many acid squelches and its rotund drums leading us to a place that’s really unlike anything we’ve encountered before. A dollop of funk here, sure fire grooves there; all in all it impresses us with its elegant mound of energy and its steadfast refusal to be pigeonholed.
‘Far From Lazy’ with Mr.V is actually the sort of track we’d expect from Jesse Rose thanks to its hip/house output, and it’s clear that Nielsen has learned quickly from his sometime mentor. ‘Back to Basics’ is the most discerning of the tracks on offer thanks to its simmering snare hits which is simply underpinned by a watertight groove, but ‘Fembot’ closes with plaudits thanks to its robotic warblings. With tracks of many moods and persuasions on offer, there’s something for everyone on Nielsen’s latest.
