Anthony Collins – Deep + Driving.

We meet with Anthony Collins, a young producer and DJ who is on the rise, one of the promising talents on the scene:

Hello Anthony,

still being quite young you got an impressive roster of labels and clubs where you produce and play, and everybody is loving your music. Let’s find out why:

How did you come to electronic music?

Nothing crazy here, i basically started to go out to clubs when i was 18, at that time the sound that was being played was the french touch craze, beginning of Daft Punk, Cassius etc., got hooked a bit to that, then i went to my first after hour and discovered the sound of US House, more underground stuff – and from that point i was hooked!!!

Did you have a mentor?

No , but i get inspired by acts like Zip, Ricardo Villalobos, Roman Flügel, Melchior …….. they have been in the circuit for so long and are still at the top of the game.

How would you describe your style of music?

Deep, driving, deep, driving, deep, DRIVING …..

How comes that you have such a vast amount of releases already on numberless labels?

My first years of production i was so exited to get any piece of music i made out there so I was giving out so much music to the people I meet  etc. i was lucky enough that many labels liked it but growing up you understand that quantity does not pair quality that well…

You played in one of my favourite clubs in Spain, the Macarena. Playing there is unique, no?

Macarena beach? Yes such a great location at day & night where you have all this lights from the warehouse, crazy, and the vibe is so damn good – hard to beat an outdoor party on the beach.

We as well share our favourite producer, Ricardo Villalobos and all three share the same favourite label, Perlon. Did you release on it or did you produce together with Ricardo?

I indeed love Perlon but never produced on it, as for Ricardo i was lucky enough to collaborate with him on a track for Nice Cat Records, and to remix a track by him on that same label.

Let’s talk about your new label, Natural History.

Natural history is the sub label to my label Scissor & Thread that I run with my Partners Francis Harris & Shawn, it is more oriented on raw analogue house tracks for the club where as the main label is more indie, electronica, pop, downtempo oriented.

How did you get in touch with Ibiza?

As a clubber in my young years and later on as a very important work hub I am always exited to come back, feels like it is the first time all over again every time.

What makes you coming back?

The vibe, the beach, the sun, the partys, the food, it has all the ingredients to have a good time.

Where can people enjoy you this year on Ibiza?

I will be around quite a lot, still working on final details, please follow my fan page on facebook to keep updated on that!

If you could change three things on the island, what would they be?

The amount of people in August.

How does your perfect day look like?

Get up next to my wife! very important…

have a nice lunch outside 

make some music 

do some sports

have a nice dinner 

drinks with some friends 

concert 

sleep with my wife. 

If you wouldn’t be a DJ and producer, what would be your sense of life?

No clue, i think i might have worked in the commerce of some sort so a life much more basic if I might say.

What advice do you give a young producer in terms of where to start with?

TAKE YOUR TIME. If you have talent I truly believe you will be discovered, don’t be too impatient, thinks grow organically – basically all the mistakes I made haha…

What do you think of dub Ibiza network?

Great mag that I have been following since many years, always exited to get my copy when I am on the island. Thanks for making it, please don’t stop!
