Adam shelton – mindscape

One Records boss, Adam Shelton, drops his second release for Nottingham’s Back To You Records and comes correct with a package that takes in two originals and remixes from Nick Lawson and Romanian talent, Jay Bliss.

Shelton, via his and Subb-An’s One Records as well as legendary Below parties in Birmingham, releases for Air London and 20:20 Vision and an enviable DJ diary, has firmly established himself as one of the UK’s leading of house talents. His love of traditional house values and aesthetics permeates all of his endeavours and it’s that love we see on offer in ‘Mindscape’.

The title track is robust, swinging and funk-laced in all the right ways. Heavily delayed orchestral hits blast through warm aural haze while Shelton uses subtle rhythmic changes to the bassline and groove to tweak what ends up as vintage nightclub fare. Sometime Morris Audio artist, Nick Lawson, tackles ‘Mindscape’ with a focus on tracks melodic elements, shaping them into a Sistrum-esque workout with a distinct UK slant.

‘Here Today Gone Tomorrow’ is the second of Shelton’s originals and it’s swagger and punch makes for an instantly gratifying slice of beats driven house. Jay Bliss, having recently cropped up on Initials and 2020 Vision, creates fluttering but powerful interpretation that plays with reductionism perfectly.
