IBIZA – MY WAY OR THE HIGH WAY

Hello Scott, just right before the launch of the second part of your movie we found you. Your whole life sounds like a movie, tell us first a bit about where you come from.

I’m from the Isle Of Man, home of the famous TT races, i am a former professional rally driver who won titles at club, national and finally international level, i was a works driver with Daihatsu and Honda. I was runner up in the British junior rally championship. I also was a schoolboy trial rider and then raced enduros bikes and quad bikes so i’ve always been a bit of an extreme sports freak. I have 2 boys 3 and 11 and an Estonion wife, i have a 3rd child due september. I won entrepreneur of the year a few years back and have always run my own businesses, having ADHD i find it very difficult to work for others, I like to be the boss…  Ok, on to your questions.

You got the ADHD syndrom, for all who still don’t know what it is please explain it a bit.

ADHD is a chemical inbalance of the pineal gland, the 3rd eye and it basically means we can get very over excited or very depressed very easily, we have no control of the chemicals that control our highs and lows, this is where the hyperactivity comes from, I personally wouldn’t want to be any other way and film one does touch on ADHD, especially as all of the cast have the condition (i have not told this to many but we will be saying it when we come to market the film), some very famous and very successful people have had the condition and they have all gone on to be very special people, I see it totally as a gift and I promote in that way, the book teaches you how to control the condition and to use it to your advantage, all the top film producers in the world have ADHD, Tarrentino, Lucas, Spielberg and Guy Ritchie, to name a few, this is why I decided to go into the film industry.

How did you become a race driver?

I began racing cars at the age of 17 in the Isle of Man and won my first british title aged 19, quite a big achievement looking back, I will make a return to car rallying once I get my acting / film career of the ground, it is still my first love and I miss the adrenaline rush in a big way. I did break my neck in a rallye car and many other bones but it is my passion and the injuries are just part of the game I suppose.

Your first contact with Ibiza?

After having a long lay off from a holiday (I was married) I was wrongly accused of manslaughter of a friend here in the Isle Of Man and my life spiraled out of control, I was on police bail for 14 months, lost all my business and my mind in this process. It is not nice being accused of something so serious when you are trying to help someone, it was a low point of my life and in the minute they released me off bail I loaded all my DJ equipment into a van and set off for Ibiza to host villa parties. The 2nd day we were there (me and Marju my new wife) I heard that UK living TV were filming a show called Ibiza 2008, I just had to get on this show so I parked my huge van in the Bar M car park, set my speakers up and DJ’ed till one of the producers of the show came over and asked me what the hell I was doing, I knew they were filming at Linakers by the way, they instantly wanted to follow us for a month and we ended up on the TV show and from that point I knew I had an opportunity and had to capitalise it.

How did you get the idea to make a movie?

One day i woke up and decided to make a movie, I had no previous experience and no acting experience, i wasn’t even suppose to be in the first movie but the lead actor pulled out and i decided to do it myself. The first film is called ‘Ibiza…My Way Or The Highway’ part1, the second one is called Ibiza…one for the road (it will be the 2nd part in a series of 3 but i will be making a gangster film before i make the 3rd instalement of Ibiza. I’ve been coming to ibiza since 1989 and have visited the island 45 times, i am a total Ibiza freak and absolutely love the culture, the clubs, the hippies and the scenery, I reckon I’m right up there as one of Ibiza’s biggest fans and promote it everywhere I go, they have now started doing direct flights from the Isle of Man as so many people here want to see it…

This is where the idea of making a film came from, a story of my journey and how it all happened, the first film is a totally true story, I have even used the original people to grab that total reality feel, it has worked very well, especially when we only had 60k to make it including all the travel and editing the whole lot. There is a bit of dodgy acting in it in place, but these people are not actors they are real people so it has a very rare and authentic feel, Film 2 is full of professionals!

Can you describe it in a few words?

The tv show was seen by 2 million people and really put us on the map so I just had to come back the next year and put up my game. We did boat parties and won 3rd best boat party. By the way you will see all this in the movie as it starts in a police cell following my arrest, film 2 does carry on from film 1 but then goes off into this fictional world, I am so looking forward to filming it, especially with such a quality cast. I suppose that uk living show put us on the map and I am now just riding a big wave trying to capitalise on it and also spreading the word of just how special this little island is. I lived in the trees with the hippies last summer to enable me to get a totally different outlook and hence a really different script for the second movie. There is alot of excitement about this 2nd film and im already talking to big distributors about it going cinema so I am really really excited, especially now i know what i am doing a bit more, lol.

Do you professionally organize parties in real life as well?

Yes i organise parties in real life to and my brand TAP (the after party) has put on many event back here and in the UK.

There is already a second part in progress?

Film 2 is very underway and very much happening, in a couple of weeks I will be booking all the flights etc. and we aim to shoot in june, this might change by a few weeks as some of the actors are famous and very busy…. I really feel that film 2 is gonna be quite big and although I have released part 1 in an underground style, film 2 will be a much bigger release and hopefully get its way around the world, obviously this will help film 1 as well. The music in film 1 is outstanding and I have used some great artists including Paco Fernandez and some of the top DJs like Adam Sheridan who is a cream resident haves also produced some tracks and the famous artist Paul Hardcastle jnr is also involved. when u watch film 1 you will see what i mean about the music, it really is superb, film 2 will be even better with some huge artists already producing tracks just for the movie as we speak… I have a mentor out there, you might know him, his name is Nick and he is one of the owners of Underground the nightclub, he is where I go to when i am down and struggling and has been a massive friend to me. I also use lots of Ibiza people in my projects, it is only right that I contribute to the economy which one day might make me alot of money in the future.

Is there, and if, what is the message behind the movies?

The idea to make a movie purely came because I knew that I had such a big story to tell, plus I wanted to raise awarness on the condition that I have and I thought that by making a film this would be a good way of doing this. I was 37 when I found out I had ADHD, if I can prevent people finding it out that late in life then I feel it will be good for them, my life has changed since I found out and I now know how to deal with it in a positive way, it also gives me a massive drive and I also do talks on in here in the UK about it.

Where is the movie to be seen?

The movie can be downloaded from www.dukevideo.com and will be on Itunes Usa and worldwide very soon, I got word that it had been approved last week which is really good news, getting an underground movie off the ground with no marketing budget isn’t very easy to say the least.

If you had a magic wand, what would you change in Ibiza?

If I had a magic wand and could change anything about ibiza it would almost certainly be to change the way that some british tourists behave whilst there, I wouldn’t change much else as I love the place and I fully intend to make it my home as soon as I possibly can. I love the people, they have always been very good to me, I love the culture and I love the laid back lifestyle as it is totally the opposite of my life lol, I also love boats and will have one soon (I have a boat on the Isle Of Man but its so cold lol).

I will always promote the good bits of ibiza and we will also include Formentera in film 2 as it is Ibiza’s best kept secret.

We will be living on camping la playa es canar, I have stayed there many times and love the owners, the venue and the madness of the people that live there during the summer.
