coyu – no man knows my history

For several years now, the Spaniard Coyu has been one of the most active boosters for Techno and House music on the Iberian Peninsula. His own label Suara, his remixes and, above all, his productions can be found at the top of Spanish club music regularly – and his Cocoon debut is no exception here.

The opening track “Long Time Awaited” may probably express what Coyu felt about this release, as he has indeed awaited this record and worked hard for it in the past. He immediately makes totally clear that he has done his homework. That’s why “Long Time Awaited” sounds like the perfect blend of Guy Gerber and Reboot – at least two important cornerstones in the Cocoon Recordings universe.

“This is Gonna Change” takes out the energy a little, but still sounds mighty and quite peaktime-compatible, thanks to its driving bass line. “Ballade Du Avril” is what generally would be called “shining bright”. Twisted and equipped with a breakbeat, this track forms a nice and skillful contrast to the loop-and-vocal-scrap formula that most contemporary producers use. In the good old high times of vinyl, “No Man Knows My History” would have been labelled a classic B2 track: exactly those kind of tracks that make the true connoisseurs of electronic music appreciate their records until today, because with them and on them you can always discover many hidden treasures apart from the Main Mix or the deeper Dub Mix. And Coyu continues this tradition in a masterful way! Trippy, spheric, just a perfect piece of megacity soundtrack, somewhere in between 9 1/2 Weeks and Blade Runner… and still in the high times of vinyl.
