piemont – unvoiced ep
German duo Piemont are one of those pairings who have been around for what seems like an age. A real beacon of consistency, they’ve adapted and tweaked with their sound many times over the years, with the end result nearly always one that’s positively draped in quality. Unsurprisingly, then, it’s a way of working which has endeared a host of labels, and Dutch imprint Area Remote are the latest to play host to their undoubted talents, as the guys impress once more with the two-tracker that comprises the Unvoiced EP.
On ”Unvoiced” itself, we see the guys serve up a track which is as emphatically impressive as anything we’ve noticed from the Piemont camp in recent memory. Really, it is that good. Full of intricate, off-kilter animal samples, unusual drops and multiple hypnotic stirring, it’s also laced with a booty-shaking groove with will get the guys and the girls moving. In short, it’s the sort of beast which looks to have aptly arrived in time for summer.
”Out of the Door” makes use of a well-trodden sample, although the lads do at least handle it with caution and pair it alongside some spiky melodies and a mound of horns that really do the damage. Piemont might be donning a new hat with this release, but it already looks like a sound experiment that’s due to pay vasty dividends.
