THE NEW ITALIAN QUEEN OF HOUSE

We meet Francesca Lombardo, the new Italian Queen of House.

Hello Francesca, it is always fascinating having an artist interview with someone that you have just discovered and admire instantly. Since your first appearance on Crosstown Rebels that is the case for me.

Tell us where your musical roots come from, i hear you have a father who is pretty much into music as well.

Hallo nice to meet u. My musical roots…yes my father used to play different instruments and also sing, he is the one who got me into music. I was looking at him playing and singing, he fascinated me each time. At the age of 6 I started to play piano, and at the age of 10 guitar. Soon after I joined the Conservatorium of classical music of Mantova, but I wasn’t really keen on classical music back then, I was more into electronic, pop, trip hop. After a while I moved to London and got myself into djing which led me here.

Being trained in classical voice and piano as well does give you a different view on electronic music, no?

I guess so, sometimes I feel my music is more musical and filled up with melodies rather then grooves. But I listen to a lot of music everyday and get inspired by other different styles too.

Tell us about your first moniker, Jackie Misfit and why did you now choose your real name to perform? Heard the ‘Kundi la Mapendo EP’ right now and really enjoyed it as well.

I guess Jackie Misfit was the name I used since the very beginning to DJ, but wasn’t my real name and felt more like a joke. At first I was a bit unsure if I should use my real name or not, but then I thought it was the right thing to do. Why not.

One more story from the past, how was the time with ‘Def by Disco’? Is there more to come?

Def by Disco was the funniest time I had. Sometimes I miss working with other people, especially them! You also have a downside of course as it is difficult for all to agree on something, but I do miss it. We still see each other and collaborate individually, but it’s just a fun thing for now, maybe in the future we will be doing a come back, who knows.

Talking about the present, what really makes the difference in my opinion is the way you treat sounds, you seem to have a secret ingredient to be able to create an atmosphere that is hard to find. Is there one?

I guess I just go with the flow. I don’t follow any rules when I make music. I like to do whatever makes me feel good. I usually think of a concept and try to put it into music.

How is life being called ‘the new Queen of Italian House’?

It’s exciting, I love my life at the moment as I am travelling and meeting many people who love what I am doing and I thank them so much for their support. It’s an exchange of ideas and happy moments and now more then ever before for me. But this doesn’t change my way of being, or my life at all.

And being a Rebel (She is now part of the Rebel Agency)?

I find it really easy –  guess I was a Rebel before. Yes I love working in the Rebel environment.. I feel lucky in a way as I found a place where I feel really comfortable.

Is there a difference in style between a female and male producer? Or is gender not relevant for style?

Gender is not relevant at all, I think it’s more personal. Of course there aren’t as many female producers as male producers but I can see that lately I discovered more and more girls making music, compared to few years ago and very talented, in any sort of music styles.

How does your perfect day look like?

Breakfast in Hackney, walk in the park, studio time, evening dinner with friends, studio time, sleep.

Enough questions, thanx a lot for your time and we hope to see you down here in Ibiza in 2013!

Thank you, it was a pleasure – see u soon! xxx
