Shlomi Aber – Clones in my Backroom
Shlomi Aber tends to reserve his best work for his own label, so when he does turn out for Be As One, you can be rest assured that it’ll be a situation worth savouring. And such is the case with his latest, as the producer turns in a record that’s suitably double A-side thanks to the dancefloor prowess that’s abundant on both sides.
Anyhow, getting the EP going is a simply mental manner is ‘Clones in my Backroom’. A catchy alarm leads the charge here, devastating everything in its path thanks to a barrage of ominous tidbits aplenty. A real marmite tune, it’ll either clear the dancefloor or keep things ticking over at a crazy pace. From our perspective, it’s nothing short of brilliant, however, so this one can expect a few airings from us.
On the other hand, there’s the equally brilliantly named ‘Zipperwork’, which is a handy tool if nothing else. Aber’s production nous really comes to the fore again here, as he introduces us to his dark and dexterous side once more. A steely industrial track that’ll help join the dots between the night’s more subdued and full on moments, it just edges out ‘Clones’ as my pick of the litter. Either way, techno enthusiasts are going to fawn over this. Top rate stuff.
