born & raised in berlin
We spoke to Marlon Hoffstadt, a producer from Germany who is definitely on the rise with his latest release ‘Crumble’ with Racquet.
Hello Marlon, it’s a pleasure to welcome you at dub Ibiza network. Looking at your history you got quite a few things to tell, so let’s start with some basics:
Where do you come from?
I was born and raised in berlin.
How did you get into music?
I think it all started with my first partys. Since berlin is know for its open airs, techno and house partys and many good clubs i started to party when i was 15. I very fast decided to start djing… so ya thats how it all started :)
What was the very first record you bought?
I think it was a cassette of the backstreet boys. I bought that in Barcelona after i found some money on the streets. I was 12 or something… Went to a record shop and asked the owner if he could give me an advice what to buy… so ya, i took a backstreet boys album.
And when did you decide to make it a profession?
After i released my first record on Evamore music. I heard the track in a club on a nye party at Prince Charles, Berlin… saw that the people liked the track and danced to it… so i decided to start dj and produce professionaly.
What dos it take to become a successful music producer?
Patience… I think i watched over 200 Youtube videos to learn Ableton. I’m producing for many years now and i still have so much to learn!
As we can hear you are into the deeper, melodic and soulful shades of electronic music, was this your style from the beginning or how did you get there?
Since the very first productions i was sure that i always want to have vocals and emotions in my tracks… you probably call this poppy… And i think the style changes from time to time as well, lately it was a little bit darker and the upcoming tracks will be more chilled.
Your latest release ‘Crumble’ is taking off very well – how did the collab with Racquet come to life?
About 1 year ago i played at XOYO with my buddy HRRSN. One day before we joined this Jukebox party from our friend Becky. She invited some bands to play there. One of these bands was Racquet, so i talked to them and since then we kept contact and decided to work on something together.
Future projects?
Im about to start a new label with my buddy Goldberg. He used to be my flatmate and since these days we knew that we want to start a label together. Now everything is in the making and we just had our first label parties in Istanbul and some upcoming in Berlin and Paris… but more info soon.
How does your perfect day look like?
Breakfast in the morning, a good coffee (espresso), a short walk to the Suol studios, some hours in front of Ableton, lunch with my labelmates, walk home, and then chillin with my flatmates, Matteo Luis & Nicolai Toma).
Sounds like a perfect day to me too!
