Barbuto – Arcana EP
The Barcelona based label Octopus Recordings, pride themselves on their ability to keep finding modern techno sounds that ring a bell for all those that come into contact with, and this release is another one that does exactly that.
Coming from the Australian born, and now Austin based Barbuto, his perfect blend of well-educated techno and tech-house is just what the doctor ordered when it comes to fulfilling the needs of techno die-hards and this release, although only two tracks, reflects that in abundance.
Kicking us off is ‘Arcana’ and it wastes no time in reaching straight for 5th gear with a foot stomper of a beat that wouldn’t look out of place in most illuminated techno clubs around the world. Teamed together with creepy, robotic, out of this world vocals, and you have a track that does as much to mystify as it does get your feet stirring. When the synths kick in it’s a full out intergalactic war on the eardrums, and really does linger in the memory long after first listen.
Following that we have ‘Twilight Imperium’ that, although also packing a punch on the bass heavy stakes, has a more groove inclined feel to it. This is established through the tracks constant twists and turns that take us on another absorbing Barbuto led path. This guy has talent, and I don’t think this will be the last we hear of him on the Octopus imprint, as when it comes to talent, these guys are connoisseurs in chasing it down.
