After a long and exhausting season with lots of disappointing musical appearances it was the one live act i was really looking forward to, Mario Basanov aka Ten Walls, performing on the terrace of Cocoon last monday.
And what a live act it was! One guy, no show around, no masquerade, just him and the machines, blowing the whole terrace away.
Performing some of his greatest tracks like ‘Gotham‘, ‘Requiem‘ and ‘Walking with Elephants‘ was already pure pleasure, but the way he set it up was legendary, combining them with fresh elements only he is capable of. It almost reminded me of the skills of Pete Namlook back in the old days on his own imprint ‘Fax Records’, he didn’t reinvent the wheel but what he did was just better, more groovy, intense and hypnotic that similar tracks out there. And that is exactly what Mario does, his tracks are of such deepness, honed with maximum creativity and the outcome is a real killer.
The main floor was almost empty, the upper terraces were deserted because the terrace floor was bursting of people, and the soundsystem was set to max, giving the crowd a unique experience. And when the oxygen canons blasted their cargo it felt like dancefloor heaven. Definitely THE live act of the season for me, confirming his outstanding position in the electronic circus.
Thanks to the Cocoon crew for the great booking, thanks to Mario Basanov for his great music and thanks to the crowd for their dedication towards quality music.
