STUDIO GAIA IBIZA

‘A healthy mind lives best in a healthy body’ is a fact that sounds very logic.

So what is there better to do than to take care of your body in order to create the ideal condition to accomodate a mind full of energy, ideas and enthusiasm, skills that are not at all easy to achieve in the difficult times we live in. To achieve this there are certain ways, probably one of the best is praticing yoga in its multiple forms. It is more than a philosophy, it is a way of life.

Sandra C.S. lives in Ibiza for more than ten years and tried a lot of different styles of Yoga until she decided that none of what she tried suits her needs. So what better to do than to start practicing her own style, best described as a mix of Traditional Yoga and Martial Yoga. Martial Yoga has its origin in the Martial Arts, fusing balance and muscle power with the flow of Yoga, giving you the chance to explore your body in a new way. We visited her in her beautiful tent in the middle of the campo of Santa Eulalia to find out more about this new reference when it comes to Yoga in Ibiza.

d: How did the idea come to life to fuse Traditional Yoga and Martial Arts?

When i tried the different forms of Yoga being offered here in Ibiza there was not one that suited my needs. So i started studying Traditional Yoga for several years to have a basis on which i could create a different form. As i always saw beauty in the movements of Martial Arts it came to my mind to start fusing both in a constant flow, and the results came up quite instantly, giving you the benefits of both in a most harmonic way. Seeing yourself in the mirror enjoying what you see is a good way to wake up your mind as well.

d: That is why you chose the slogan ‘Move your ass and your mind will follow’ for your sessions?

Exactly – it is a short but very powerful expression nailing it down to the point.

Some people think that Hot Yoga is quite similar to it but in reality Hot Yoga is nothing else than static postures in a heated environment, without any flow” she says after i ask her about the difference between Martial and Hot Yoga, “if there is anybody feeling cold in the middle of one of my sessions then there is something wrong so there is no need for excessive heating“. Said and done, here i am trying her ‘Beginner’s Session’ and i have to say that it felt different from the very beginning. I was no big Yoga fan as probably most of men but i clearly felt my body responding immediately. Not only her skills as a Yoga Monitor but as well the natural surrounding in which the classes are held gives you a deep connection to nature without any distraction.

d: Where does the name ‘Studio Gaia Ibiza’ and the logo with the Koi carp come from?

As we have a bunch of Kois in a pond i was impressed about their harmonic movements, so the Koi in the logo reflects the flowing movements in this style of Yoga, and Gaia is part of the name of my daughter which means ‘Mother Earth’. On top ‘carp’ in spanish is ‘carpa’ which means as well ‘tent’ so the name was born out of these two words. And as my husband is a graphic designer we came up with this logo – hope you like it.

d: Very well done indeed, it transmits both power and equilibrium. So how can people access your sessions?

At the end of this article you find my mobile number and a mail where you can get in contact with me, we created as well a facebook-account with some additional info and news, being updated on a regular basis.

d: Thanx so much Sandra for your time and we are sure that you will make your way here on Ibiza with already a lot of Yoga being offered, because yours is truly different and very well worth a try.

Thanks to you for the interview and hope to see you back soon in my studio.
