Wow, what a winter… In my 20 years on Ibiza I never experienced this climate, without thinking about the consequences it is a dream come true.
Nature has not gone into winter’s sleep, the island is most green and flowering everywhere, the almond trees are already in full blossom and lots of animals have decided to stay here. The tough go to the beach and have a swim and, sitting on my terrace the other day for about an hour I got a sunburn… Well, the consequences are first of all a serious drought that threatens us upcoming summer, the possibility of late heavy rains or even cold weather when nature is in full blossom, ruining harvests activating a chain reaction affecting us all and the chance of a rainy June, as some Payeses told me, which is bad for tourism. But – always look on the bright side of life.
Talking about bright sides, I said it already on our FB page, as every year the island is bursting with rumours and news about Who-Is-Gone-Who-Is-New-And-Who-Is-Back. Space is celebrating it’s last season, after 27 years it will close its doors after this summer (If the post was real I saw a great poster showing Kurt Cobaine, Amy Winehouse and more who belong to the club of the ’27’, means they died at the age of 27 – and Space is the latest entry), handing it over to the Ushuaia crew. Lots of people say the island won’t be the same without Space, that is certainly true but life is change and every good thing comes to an end, too – so let’s celebrate this last season with them! Enter is not present this year, not because Richie doesn’t like Ibiza any more but for other reasons, so we wish him all the best and will dance with him in Cocoon anyway. Privilege will probably change owner as well, but nothing definite has come to our ears yet. DC10 might be closed for summer due to an old case they still have unsolved, but let’s see, the last word is not spoken yet. But the wildest rumour comes from Pacha, it is said that the club got sold to a Chinese investor, including Pacha Hotel. We will know soon if this is true or not… Fact is that Martin Solveig and Bob Sinclair will be back this season at Pacha. Sankeys will celebrate nights with different music styles including Balearic and Broken Beats – bravo, that adds some colour to the musical diversity which is so desperately needed (read our article from Christian Len about musical diversity here).
The social media are bursting with comments that Ibiza is going down, Mainstream took over and the good times are gone. Well, to all those I can only say that Ibiza will never go down, I hear this for as long as I come to this island, the truth is that Ibiza is not only clubs and music, it has so much more to offer and, as I said before, life is change and you either go with it or not. If you are one of the people that jump on the band waggon singing ‘Hallelujah, Ibiza is dead’ then I wish you a happy holiday wherever else on this planet, there is a place for everyone.
We will stay in paradise, giving our best to keep showing you the real Ibiza, with all its facets and uncensored – quality never prostitutes.
