happy new yeah!

‘Happy New Yeah!’ is not just a phrase, it is a statement.

In a moment where the only thing sure is change in many ways it is essential to know what you want, who you are and where you want to go with your life, be it on a global scale or local.

2017 will be decisive in many ways, one of the most powerful nations elected a new president that will change the political landscape for many years to come, Europe faces national elections in key countries like France and Germany with an outcome that is hard to foresee as all of the established polls where wrong about the outcome of the American elections, so what are they really worth? It is a key factor that the established parties realize how easy it is today to manipulate the public via social media as it seems a common practice to make promises during electoral campaigns to get voters on your side that do not matter anymore once you are elected. Fear is one of the most powerful feelings when it comes to mass manipulation, and the ongoing war on terror, which is nothing else than the terror of war, is a perfect tool to get people to vote for people with a strong message, even if their real motivation remains hidden behind those messages.

Without looking any further we see live and on a daily basis how Spain is struggling to put together a government that represents the Spanish population adequately. But let’s have a look at Ibiza – Pacha is sold to an investor group, Space has closed its doors but seems to remain under the same name, be it with an add-on or not, we will see. Carl Cox has announced he will not play in Space any more but rumors say he will be back on the island in 2017, when where and how, we will see. ‘It’s all about marketing’ is a phrase that many follow, what falls by the wayside is quality, innovation, creativity and progress.

In an interview i did with DJ Hell in 2011 he said something that got stuck in my mind for a long time, he stated that he is somehow disappointed by the clubs on the island as they still use the same formula that has fuelled clublife since the early nineties, ‘a good sound system, some coloured lights and smoke machines’, sometimes replaced with oxigen cannons for bigger effect, and that we should do better being at the forefront of global clublife.

And you know what? He is absolutely right, it should not be enough to put together a night booking big name DJs for their media presence but for their quality of performance, offering the people an outstanding time as they pay outstanding prices to get there. No offense please, i do not say that all big nights are the same, this island has some of the best promoters and clubs worldwide, but to ensure this position we have to keep pushing, innovating, taking risks and create something new, fresh and unique.
